Vocabulary flashcards covering five core educational principles that impact student learning: autonomy/meaningful choice, effort and strategy, physiological needs, physical environment, and collaboration.
Autonomy/Meaningful Choice
Allowing students to help direct their own learning, set meaningful personal goals, and make choices about how they learn, which increases motivation, engagement, and student success.
Effort and Strategy
The view that learning is a process that involves effort, mistakes, relfection, and refinement of strategies.
Physiological Needs
Students' physical well-being—including nutrition, sleep, and exercise—that impacts learning.
Physical Environment
The classroom environment that influences student focus and achievement, where using flexible furniture, maintaining a comfortable temperature, and enhancing lighting creates a more conducive learning environment.
Collaboration
A process that encourages deeper processing by allowing students to learn through social interaction, sharing ideas, explaining their thinking, and constructing knowledge together.
