Broad participation in politics & society, active citizenship by everyone

Participatory democracy

voting; social movements: peaceful protest, local town hall and meetings; initiatives: placing a measure on a ballot they want passed into law; referendums: people oppose a law passed their legislature

Examples of Participatory democracy

Limited participation by a few well-educated and well-informed states people qualified to make decisions on behalf of the people

Elite democracy (elitism)

supreme court, electoral college, senator/representative

Examples of Elite democracy (elitism)

Group based activism non-governmental interests to influence policy making.

Pluralist democracy

Caucuses within Congress (legislators passing laws based upon common courses): Freedom Caucus, Black Caucus, etc
