Team
A group consisting of 6 players on their side of the court.
Player Positions
RF (right front), CF (center front), LF (left front), RB (right back/serving position), CB (center back), LB (left back).
Bump/Forearm Pass
Used to pass the ball to a teammate; keep arms straight and contact the ball with the flat part of your forearms.
Set/Overhead Pass
Used to set up a teammate for a spike; create a triangle with your hands and pop the ball up in the air.
Spike
A ball hit from above the net into the opponent's court in a downward manner.
Underhanded Serve
A serve where the ball is kept at waist level and hit without tossing.
3-hit Succession
The most successful pattern in volleyball: PASS - SET - SPIKE.
Point Scoring
A point is scored on every play/serve, worth 1 point.
Serve
The ball is served by the player in the RIGHT BACK position until that team fails to score.
Side Out
When one team loses their serve, it’s called ____ allowing the other team to rotate and serve.
Clockwise

The back line on a volleyball court.
BLOCK
To stop the ball from going over the net.

Diving for a ball and keeping it alive by hitting it with one hand.
DINK
To barely tap the ball over the net.
KILL
A successful spike.
RALLY
Both teams successfully hitting the ball back and forth over the net.
Receiving Team
The team that is receiving the serve.
Rotating Team
The team that moves clockwise every time it receives the serve.
Engaging Serve
Hits the ball from behind the baseline over the net to the opposing team.
Serving Team
The team that serves the ball.
SET
The second hit in a 3-hit sequence, positioning the ball for a spike.
SIDEOUT
When the receiving team wins the serve.
SIDELINE
The boundary line on the sides of the court.
SPIKE
The third hit designed to win the rally by hitting the ball down into the opponent's side.
SPIKING LINE
The line ten feet from the net that back-row players cannot cross to spike.
VOLLEY
To hit the ball before it touches the floor.
