Spring Scale
A tool used to measure the amount of force needed to move an object.
Interaction
When two or more things affect, change, or do something to each other.
Independent Variable
A variable that is changed by the scientist (e.g., different ramp heights: 2 in, 5 in, 7 in).
Dependent Variable
A variable that results from the change the scientist makes; can be measured or observed (e.g., how far a ball rolls down a ramp).
Constant
The things the scientist keeps the same in an investigation (e.g., using only one type of ball).
Reliability
The ability of an investigation to be repeatable and accurate.
Testable
The ability to be tested through scientific investigation (e.g., "How does ramp height affect how far a ball rolls after going down a ramp?").
Hypothesis
A prediction based on observations, inferences, and research (e.g., "I think the ball will roll furthest after rolling down the 7 inch ramp.").
Evidence
Any information, data, or physical clue gathered through observation and experiments that helps show whether an idea or claim is true.
