Glycosis:
First stage of the metabolic pathway of cellular respiration= ATP production
begins breaking down sugar
Uses two ATP to create 4 ATP
occurs in the cytoplasm
krebs cycle:
second stage of metabolic pathway
continues breaking down sugars
two ATP- transport to mitochondria
Electron transport chain:
Electrons are sent through mitochondrial membrane. Flow of hydrogen ions into the inner membrane spaces
electrons-protein assembly-cristate: inner membrane of mitochondria
electrons go from high to low energy
eventually picked up by oxygen
hydrogen ions flow out of the membrane through an enzyme
During electron transport chain:
pumping hydrogen: hydrogen ions rush back into the mitochondrial matrix through ATP synthase, oxygen then bonds with leftover hydrogen to form water.
Cellular respiration
Cellular respiration is the metabolic process that cells use to break down glucose and other food molecules with oxygen to release chemical energy in the form of ATP (adenosine triphosphate
All living organisms perform cellular respiration, including plants, animals, fungi, protists, and bacteria.
Even though plants make their own food through photosynthesis, they also perform cellular respiration to turn that food into usable energy
