Transverse plane
Divides the body into cranial (front) and caudal (back) segments.
Sagittal plane
Also known as the median plane, it splits the body bilaterally into left and right halves.
Medial
Refers to a position closer to the midline of the body.
Lateral
Refers to a position farther away from the midline.
Dorsal
Refers to the back or spine of the organism.
Ventral
Refers to the belly or underside of the organism.
Proximal
Refers to a structure being closer to the point of attachment or the trunk.
Distal
Refers to a structure being farther away from the point of attachment or the trunk.
Rostral
Refers to a position near the mouth and nose.
Forelimbs
The front limbs of an organism.
Hindlimbs
The back limbs of an organism.
Scrotal sac
An external pouch that contains the testicles in males.
Urogenital opening
A shared external opening for excretion and reproduction.
