Epithelial Tissue
covers body surface, lines internal cavities and organs, and form glands
Connective Tissue
supports, binds, and protects other tissues and organs in the body
Muscle Tissue
composed of excitable and contractile cells called muscle fibers that shorten to produce movement, maintain posture, and generate heat
Nerve tissue
responsible for coordinating, controlling, and communicating messages throughout the body

What epithelial tissue?
Simple squamous

What epithelial tissue?
simple cuboidal

What epithelial tissue?
simple columnar

What epithelial tissue?
stratified squamous

What epithelial tissue?
pseudostratified ciliated columnar

basement membrane

structure name
connective tissue

structure name
goblet cell

structure name
cilia
simple squamous
a single layer of flat, scale-like cells designed for rapid diffusion and filtration (lining the interior of blood vessels, ventral body cavity, forms air sacs of lungs)
simple cubodial
a single layer of cube-shaped cells that handles secretion and absorption in various organs (forms secretory cells of glands and lines kidney tubules, small ducts, secretory glands)
simple columnar
a single layer of tall, narrow cells that specialize in absorption and secretion (lines the interior of the stomach and intestines and contains goblet cells)
pseudostratified ciliated columnar
a single layer of column-shaped cells that looks like multiple layers because its cell nuclei sit at different heights (lines upper respiratory passage and contains goblet cells)
stratified keratinized squamous
a tough, multi-layered tissue that forms the outer protective layer of the skin (forms outer layer of skin)
stratified nonkeratinized squamous
a multi-layered tissue with flattened surface cells that lack a dead, tough protein layer and must stay moist (lines mouth and vagina)
transitional
a specialized type of stratified epithelial tissue that stretches and flattens to accommodate changes in volume within hollow organs (lines interior of urinary bladder)
loose connective tissue
a soft, flexible padding that binds skin to muscles and is supporting framework for internal organs
adipose connective tissue
storage area for fat, insulates body, and protective cushion for internal organs
fibrous connective tissue
forms ligaments and tendons, very strong but pliable, poor blood supply, tightly packed collagenous fibers, inner layer of skin
elastic connective tissue
in walls of arteries and enables expansion and contracion of lungs

what special connective tissue is this?
elastic cartilage

what special connective tissue is this?
hyaline cartilage

what special connective tissue is this?
compact bone
