Purpose and effects: increase body temp, more circulating WBC, increase blood flow, relieve muscle spasm, relieves pain in joints, sweat
Indication: pain from nerves/joints, muscle tension, prep for massage, or prep for cold procedure
Contraindication: unconsciousness, paralyzed body part, legs/feet for diabetics, tendency to bleed, or malignancy
Cold Mitten Friction (purpose and effects, indications, contraindications)
Purpose and effects: stimulate circulation of the skin, increase the rate of blood flow, increase WBC activity, stimulate neuromuscular tone, and reduce fever
Indication: hyperthyroidism, to build up cold resistance, sluggish circulation, and generalized weakness/lack of endurance

Contraindication: local malignancies, peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, impaired feeling, tendency to hemorrhage

Purpose and effects: increased vasodilation without heating or cooling; stimulate circulation, increase nerve activity, remove dead skin, increase sense of well-being

Treatment for bruises/sprains
Rest, ice, compression, and elevation

bed rest on firm mattress, ice massage several times daily, place chair on floor & lay on floor with feet on it, warm tub bath

gargle: alternate with hot salt water and cold charcoal water

Acute laryngitis treatment
vocal rest, steam inhalation (15 minutes every 2-3 hours for 2 days), heating compress to throat, drink water, sweating treatment, and hot tub bath
Acute bronchitis treatment
hot bath at bedtime (6-10 minutes), fomentation to chest every 2 hours followed by heating compress, drink plenty of water
Steam vaporizor at bedside
Stay in bed in fever phase; go outside for walks after fever is gone
Diarrhea treatment
Diet: bananas, white potatoes, rice, scrapped apple, boiled milk
Bed rest
Cold pack to lower abdomen
Charcoal tablets (1 to 12 every four hours)
Carob powder in boiled milk three times a day
Constipation treatment
eat high fiber foods; avoid refined sugars/starches/greasy foods; drink water throughout day; ripe olives with each meal; outdoor exercise; regular time for pooping; flax seed tea at night; glass of hot water and prune juice when rising; deep breathing
hydrotherapy: fomentation and cold rub to abdomen, graduated enemas if necessary
Nausea and vomiting treatment
bed rest; nothing by mouth until done vomiting; peppermint tea or 7up sips; charcoal every 2-3 hours; hot broth and juice; light food and olives; ice pack to upper abdomen or fomentation
