Aseptic technique
A set of laboratory practices designed to prevent contamination from unwanted microorganisms during procedures.
Sterile technique
A lab procedure aimed at eliminating all living microorganisms and spores from tools and environments, contrasted with aseptic technique.
Ejector
A component of a micropipette that releases the disposable tip after liquid delivery.
Grip
The section of a micropipette designed to be held securely in the user's hand.
Tip cone
The end part of a micropipette onto which disposable pipette tips are attached.
Plunger
The top mechanism of a micropipette pressed down to draw up and dispense precise volumes of liquid.
Display
The window on a micropipette that shows the exact volume set for liquid transfer.
Solute
The component in a solution that is dissolved by a solvent.
Solvent
The substance that dissolves the solute to form a solution.
Aqueous solution
A chemical solution in which water serves as the solvent.
Molarity
A measure of concentration defined as moles of solute per liter of solution, used to calculate volume, moles, or concentration.
Beer's law
A principle establishing the direct relationship between light absorption and the concentration of a solution.
Percent composition
A quantitative representation of the relative amount of each component within a given solution or compound.
Dilution math
Mathematical calculations used to determine changes in volume or concentration when adding solvent to a stock solution.
