Claims of Fact
Statements that guarantee that a particular position or status is believed to be true based on known or accepted facts, are answerable by yes or no, and must be supported by concrete evidence.
Claims of Value
Statements designed to gauge the acceptability and desirability of a state or condition, requiring the writer to convince readers of its relevance while the audience can choose to believe or refute them.
Claims of Policy
Statements that explain the resolution or action to take in addressing an important issue, acting as a direct proposal that specific conditions should occur to solve a problem.
Example of a Claim of Fact
Sometimes people use Facebook, Twitter, and other social media to bully one another.
Example of a Claim of Value
It is wrong to use social media to bully people.
Example of a Claim of Policy
There should be criminal charges brought against people who use social media to bully others.
