Gestalt Principles

Proximity
Used to group related elements together to organise information and create hierarchy
Continuity
The way our brains tend to anticipate a path through elements that look the same
Similarity
Elements that share similarities, such as colour, shape, texture, or orientation, are perceived as belonging together
Closure
The human tendency to perceive incomplete shapes as complete and fill in gaps
Common Fate
The tendency to perceive that objects that move or behave together, belong together
Focal point
The specific area or element within a design that immediately grabs attention
