What’s the main difference between the North and South hemispheres? What hemispheres are the 8 locations in?

They are in opposite seasons. When it’s summer for the North, it is winter for the South and vice versa.

What are all of the variables and their respective units which are involved?

Daily mean temperature (degrees Celsius), total rainfall (mm), total sunshine (nearest 1/10ths of an hour), mean wind speed (kn/knots ‘nautical mile per hour’ 1kn=1.15mph), maximums gusts (highest instantaneous wind speed (kn)), humidity (percentage of air saturation with water vapour), mean cloud cover (Oktas means the number of 1/8ths of the sky covered 0-8), mean visibility (how far in meters can be seen into the horizon during daylight hours), mean pressure (hectopascals hPa), wind directions (measured by a bearing or compass).

What does tr/trace mean?

It means that the rainfall was less than 0.05mm, in calculations, you can treat them as being 0mm

6
New cards

What is the Beaufort scale?

Measures windspeed. 0 = calm < 1kn, 1-3 = light 1-10kn, 4 = moderate 11-16kn, 5 = fresh 17-21kn

7
New cards

What tends to happen to the mean temperature as you go up north in the UK?

The temperature tends to decrease

8
New cards

What are the mean wind speeds in each location?

UK- 9nm, Beijing-4nm, Jacksonville- 5nm, Perth- 8nm
