Radical Halogenation
Produces Markovnikov alkyl halide to add X at a stable carbocation and if producing a chiral center it will produce the enantiomer but if a chiral center is already present it will produce the diasteomer
Radical Hydrohalogenation
Produces anti-markovnikov alkyl halide using HBr and H2O2
Allylic Bromination
Uses NBS or NCS to add Br or Cl and produces a chiral center with an enantiomer
Homolytic Cleavage
Breaks X2 to create two radicals
Addition to a pi bond
Destroys a pi bond creating a new radical and sigma bond
Hydrogen Abstraction
H is removed to attach to a radical and in turns forms another radical
Halogen Abstraction
X is removed to attach to a radical and in turns forms another radical
Elimination
A pi bond is made using a radical and breaking a sigma bond with it being in the location of the radical and an unpaired radical
Coupling
Two radicals join together
Initiation
radicals are created
Propagation
location of radical is moved
Termination
Two radicals join together at the end to form a bond
