Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP)
A plan that outlines the procedures to follow in the event of a disaster that affects an organization’s operations.
Recovery Time Objective (RTO)
A metric that defines the maximum acceptable amount of time taken to recover from a disaster and restore services.
Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
A metric that indicates the maximum acceptable amount of data loss measured in time during a disaster.
Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
The average time required to repair a system or component after a failure.
Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
The average time expected between failures of a system or component.
Site Resiliency
The ability of an organization’s systems and resources to continue functionality even in the event of a disaster.
Cold Site
An empty facility that requires equipment and data to be brought in after a disaster to restore operations.
Hot Site
A fully equipped backup facility that is an exact replica of the primary data center, allowing for quick recovery.
Warm Site
A backup facility that has some infrastructure and may include some hardware, but may require data to be brought in.
Tabletop Exercise
A simulated discussion of a disaster recovery scenario where participants describe their response process without physical actions.
