Cytoskeleton
A framework of the cell within the cytoplasm ( Eukaryotic cells )
Microtubles
Long, hollow protein cylinders that form a rigid skeleton for the cell / assist moving substances within the cell.
Microfilaments
Thin protein threads that help give the cell shape / enable the entire cell or parts of the cell to move.
Centrioles
Organelles that occur in pairs and are more important for cell division ( Animal / most protist cells )
Cilia
Projections from cell surfaces that aid in locomotion and feeding; also used to sweep substances along surface ( Some animal / protist / prokaryotes cells )
Flagella
Longer / less numerous than Cillia
Nucleus
Control center of the cell containing coded directions for the production of proteins / cell division ( Eukaryotic cells )
Nucleolus
Ribosome production inside the nucleus
Mitochondria
Membrane-bound organelle that makes energy available to the rest of the cell ( Eukaryotic cells )
Chloroplasts
Double-membrane organelle where photosynthesis takes place ( Plant / some protist cells )
Ribosome
Organelle of protein synthesis
Endoplasmic reticulum
Highly folded membrane of protein synthesis ( rough / smooth endoplasmic reticulum )
Goldi apparatus
Flattened stack of tubular membranes modifying proteins and packages them for distribution outside the cell ( Eukaryotic cells )
Lysosomes
Vesicle breaking down excess / worn-out cellular substances
Cell wall
Inflexible barrier that provides support / protects the plant cell
Vacuole
Membrane-bound vesicle for the temporary storage of materials
