Epidermis

The outer layer of the skin located above the dermis.

Dermis

The main layer of the skin situated between the epidermis and the hypodermis.

Hypodermis

The layer located beneath the dermal layer, noted as not being part of the skin.

Sweat pore

An opening on the skin surface through which sweat from a sweat gland exits.

Sensory neurons

Nerve fibers located within the layers of the integumentary system.

Dermal papillae

Nipple-like projections of the dermis that extend into the epidermis.

Hair

A filamentous structure extending from a hair follicle through the surface of the skin.

Sebaceous gland

An oil-producing gland connected to a hair follicle in the dermal layer.

Hair follicle

The sheath of tissue surrounding the root of a hair in the skin.

Blood vessels

Vascular structures present within the dermis that supply blood to the skin.

Sweat gland

A glandular structure in the skin that secretes fluid through a sweat pore.

Lamellated corpuscle

A specialized sensory receptor structure located deep in the dermal and subcutaneous region.

Adipose tissue

Fatty tissue situated within the hypodermis layer below the dermis.

Arrector pili muscle

A small smooth muscle attached to a hair follicle in the skin.
