Flower Morphology
The study of the external form and structure of flowers.
Stamen
The male reproductive part of a flower, consisting mainly of the anther and filament.
Anther
The part of the stamen that produces pollen grains.
Filament
A long, thin stalk that supports the anther.
Pistil
The female reproductive part of a flower, consisting of the stigma, style, and ovary.
Stigma
The receptive surface of the pistil where pollen attaches and germinates.
Style
A long, slender stalk connecting the stigma to the ovary.
Ovary
The enlarged basal part of the pistil that contains the ovules.
Receptacle
The base of the flower where the floral parts are attached.
Petal
A modified leaf that often attracts pollinators through color, shape, or scent.
Sepal
A leaf-like floral structure that protects the developing flower bud.
Pedicel
The stalk that attaches an individual flower to the stem or inflorescence.
Anther Structure
The anther contains microsporangia, which produce pollen grains.
Microsporangia
Structures in the anther where pollen grains develop.
Pollen Grains
Male gametophytes of flowering plants that carry the male reproductive cells.
Ovary Structure
The ovary contains ovules, which develop into seeds after fertilization.
Ovules
Female reproductive structures inside the ovary that contain the developing female gametophyte.
Megasporangium
The structure in the ovule where megaspores are produced; the ovule contains the female gametophyte.
Embryo Sac
The female gametophyte of a flowering plant that develops within an ovule.
Mature Ovule
A developed ovule that contains the female gametophyte and can become a seed after fertilization.
Male Reproductive Pathway
Anther → Microsporangia → Pollen Grains → Male Gametophyte.
Female Reproductive Pathway
Ovary → Ovules → Embryo Sac → Mature Ovule.
