Why is law classified into different categories?

To organise the legal system and make it easier to understand and apply legal rules.

What is the purpose of law classification?

It assists in determining which legal principles apply to particular situations.

What is international law?

Law that governs the relationships between states and entities recognized in the international legal order.

What is national law?

The legal system that operates within a particular country, regulating behavior within that state.

What does public law regulate?

The relationships between individuals and the state, as well as the functioning of the state itself.

What does private law regulate?

Relationships between private individuals or legal entities.

What is constitutional law?

The division of public law that regulates the structure and powers of the state, based on the Constitution.

What is criminal law?

Law that regulates conduct harmful to society, establishing penalties for offenders.

What is administrative law?

Law that regulates the exercise of power by government officials and administrative bodies.

What does private law include?

Branches such as contract law, delict law, family law, and property law.

What distinguishes a contract from a delict?

A contract is a legally binding agreement, while a delict arises from unlawful harm caused without a prior agreement.

What is substantive law?

Law defining legal rights, duties, and obligations.

What is procedural (adjectival) law?

Law regulating the processes and procedures for resolving legal disputes.

Why is the classification of law important for legal study?

It provides a framework for understanding the legal system and clarifies which principles apply to different legal problems.
