endoscope

an instrument used for a visual examination of internal structures (endo- means within, and -scope means an instrument for visual examination). This examination is called an play audio endoscopy.

Anoscopy

the visual examination of the anal canal and lower rectum (an/o means anus, and -scopy means visual examination).

colonoscopy

the direct visual examination of the inner surface of the entire colon from the rectum to the cecum using a colonoscope (colon/o means colon, and -scopy means visual examination).

Sigmoidoscopy

the endoscopic examination of the interior of the rectum, the sigmoid colon, and possibly a portion of the descending colon (sigmoid/o means sigmoid colon, and -scopy is the visual examination).

Hemoccult test

the fecal occult blood test, is a laboratory test for hidden blood in stool (hem means blood, and -occult means hidden). The test kit is used to obtain the specimens at home, and the results are then evaluated in a laboratory.
