Present Simple Tense
General truths, facts, or habits. (She trains every morning)
Past Simple Tense
Action completed at a specific time in the past. (She trained yesterday.)
Future Simple
Action that will happen later (She will train tomorrow)
Present Perfect Tende
Unspecified past time, or action continuing to now. (She has trained all week)
Past Perfect Tense
Action finished before another past event. (She had trained before the game started.)
Future Perfect Tense
Action that will be finished before a future moment (By 5 PM, she will have trained.)
Present Progressive Tense
Action happening right now. (She is training right now.)
Past Progressive Tense
Action ongoing at a specific moment in the past. (She was training when it started raining.)
Future Progressive Tense
Action ongoing at a specific time in the future. (She will be training at noon tomorrow.)
Transitive Verbs
Needs a Direct Object to complete its meaning and answers What? or Whom? after the verb (He kicked [the ball].)
Intransitive Verbs
Does NOT take a Direct Object and Sentence is complete without an object (He slept soundly)
Active Voice
The subject performs the action. (The referee blew the whistle.)
Passive Voice
The subject receives the action. (The whistle was blown by the referee.)
Action Verbs
Expresses physical or mental doing. (She calculated her options.)
Linking Verbs
Connects subject to a word describing/renaming it. (The field was muddy.)
