Pre-Maneuver Tasks (Step 1)
The preparatory actions that include planning the maneuver, executing the pre-maneuver flow, clearing the area of traffic, stabilizing on initial entry altitude and heading, choosing a visual reference, and setting the heading bug if equipped.
Clean Configuration (Step 2)
The aircraft configuration required to be set before slowing down for the maneuver.
Pitch Adjustment During Deceleration (Step 3)
Increasing pitch as the aircraft slows to 60KIAS in order to maintain altitude, counteracting the tendency to descend as lift decreases.
VR Pitch and Power Application (Step 4)
At VR (60KIAS), setting pitch to +20∘ and applying full power while maintaining coordinated flight using rudder (and establishing bank while pitching up if specified by the instructor/examiner).
Step 5 Callout
The required verbal announcement of "buffet, horn, stall" upon reaching stall indications.
Indications of a Stall
Observable flight conditions including uncommanded pitch down, wing drop, yaw, or loss of altitude.
Power-On Stall Primary Indication
The initial cue during a power-on stall, which will likely be a wing drop, or in some cases, a loss of altitude coupled with strong buffeting.
Stall Recovery Initiation Threshold
The rule specifying that recovery must not begin until the aircraft is fully stalled.
Simultaneous Recovery Actions (Step 6)
Simultaneously leveling the wings using coordinated rudder and aileron, and reducing angle of attack (AOA) to approximately +1∘ pitch.
Maneuver Completion (Step 7)
Returning to normal climb attitude, airspeed, and configuration, or establishing the altitude, heading, and airspeed specified by the instructor or examiner.
