Thalwey

Fastest flow

3
New cards

Thalwey location in meanders

Outside of bends as it's the deepest part and there's less friction to slow the water down.

Thalwey effect on bend

Erosion is most prominent near thalwey this forms a river cliff and allows the rivers meander to migrate across the valley .

5
New cards

Meander deposition- Slip off slope

Slow current inside bend, eroded material is deposited forming a slip of the slope.

Oxbow lakes definition + formation

An arc shaped lake cut off from a meander, formed when erosion causes the rivers bends to become close together forming a neck, when there's a flood the neck is broken through the flow of water wants to take the shorted route so avoids the meander. This eventually causes deposition to cut of the arc forming an oxbow lake.
