Simple Squamous Epithelial
Fuction: Filtration,diffusion,osmosis,secretion
Location:Body cavities
Simple Cuboidal Epithelial
Fuction:Secretion and absorption
Location Kidneys,small ducts,thyroids
Simple Columnar Epithelial
Function: Secretion, protection, absorption
Location: Lines upper respiratory tract, uterine, paranasal, central canal, spinal cord, sinuses, paranasal
Psudeostratified Columnar
Function: Absorption and filtration
Location: Lines airways of most upper respiratory tract
Stratified Squamous Epithelial
Fuction: Provides the first line of defense against microbes
Location: Esophagus,part of epiglottis,abrasion(lining of mouth/wet surfaces)
Transitional Epithelial
Function: Allows urinary organs to stretch and hold changing amounts of fluid without rupture, serves as a protection lining.
Location: Lines urinary bladder, portions of uterus, and urethra.
Stratified Columnar Epithelial
Function: Protection and secretion
Location: Lines some urethra, large ducts, esophagus glands, small areas in mucous membrane, eye conjunctive.
Glandular Epithelial
Fuction: Produce hormones that regulate various body cavities
Location: Pitulitary gland at base of brain, pineal gland in brain, thyroid and parathyroid, near larynx above the kidney/pancreas
Vascular Connective
Function: Red blood cells transport oxygen, white blood cells fight for immunity and allergic reactions
Location: Blood vessels
Osseous Connective
Fuction: Supports soft tissues, protects, delicate structures and works with skeletal muscles to generate movement.
Location: In between sockets
Fibroblast Connective
Fuction: Production and maintenance of fibers
Location: Various connective tissues
Collagen Fibers Connective
Fuction: Provides flexibility and strength
Location:Loose and dense connective tissue
Elastic Fibers
Function:Provides elasticity and extensibility
Location: Loose and elastic connective tissue
Reticular Fibers Connective
Fuction: Provides support for tissues in the organs
Location: Reticular connective tissue
Hyaline Cartilidge Connective
Fuction: gives smooth surfaces for movement at joints, flexibility and support
Location: Ends of bones, In the lucunae.
Elastic Connective
Function: Gives strength and elasticity.Keeps shape of certain structures
Location: Lid on top of larynx, Part of auditory tubes
Fibrocartilage Connective
Function: Support, holds structures together, Strength and ridgidity
Areoar Connective
Function: Strength, elasticity, and support
Location: Around organs,vessels,and nerves.
Adipose Connective
Function: Energy reserve, heat insulation, protection.
Location: Deep to skin. Around heart, kidneys, and eye sockets
Reticular Connective
Function: Forms Internal framework, filters blood/lymph
Location: Stroma of liver, spleen, lymph nodes, red bone marrow
Dense Regular (Tendon) Connective
Function: Transmits force from muscle to move bone
Location: Muscle to bone (tendons)
Dense Regular (Ligament) Connective
Function: Stabilizes joints and restricts movement
Location: Bone to Bone (Ligaments)
Dense Irregular (Dermis layer of skin) Connective
Function: Provides strength in many directions
Location: Dermis layer of skin, joint capsules, organ capsules
Skeletal Muscle
Function: Generates motion, maintains posture, and produces body heat
Location: Attached to bones of skeleton.
Cardiac Muscle
Function: Pumps blood throughout the body
Location: Walls of heart
Smooth Muscle
Function: Moves substances through hollow organs. (ex-Blood through vessels or food through intestines)
Location: Walls of hollow internal organs. (ex- Stomach, vessels, airways)
Nervous Tissue
Function: Sense stimuli, conduct impulses, support/protect nuerons
Location: Throughout the nervous system (Brain)
