Taxonomy
The science of classifying organisms.
Species
A group of individual organisms with fundamental similarities.
Bryophytes
The simplest and most primitive form of land plants, including various mosses and liverworts.
Stamen
The male sex organ in the flower.
Pollination
The process where pollen grains, after being dispersed from the anthers, are carried by wind or various other agencies to the stigma of a pistil.
Flower
The reproductive part of angiosperms.
Monocotyledons (Monocots)
A group of flowering plants (angiosperms) that have only one cotyledon (seed leaf) in their seeds.
Dicotyledons
Flowering plants characterised by having two cotyledons in their seeds.
Types of Leaves
The main types of leaves are Simple Leaf and Compound Leaf.
Pistil
The female reproductive part of a flower, usually located at the centre of the flower, which plays a key role in reproduction by helping in pollination and fertilization.
Carolus Linnaeus Classification System
A two-kingdom system of classification proposed by Carolus Linnaeus, based on the mode of nutrition and locomotion.
Demerits of Linnaeus Classification
The system failed to separate or distinguish between prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms, unicellular and multicellular organisms, and photosynthetic and non-photosynthetic organisms.
Hierarchy of Classification
The arrangement in classification where organisms that closely resemble one another are grouped, and different taxonomic units are arranged in increasing order of specificity of characters.
Categories
The various grouping levels or ranks in biological classification.
Taxon
Each category of organisms at a particular level considered as a unit in classification.
