Have a unique structure that helps do specific jobs

Red blood cells

Carries oxygen around the body.Has no nucleus, contains haemoglobin, disc shape for more surface area

Nerve cell (neuron)

Sends electrical signals through the body.Long and thin with branches that connect to other cells

Muscle cell

Contracts and relaxed to cause movement.Long and stretchy, full of fibres that can contract

Sperm cell

Male reproductive cell, has a tail (flagellum) to swim to the egg, streamlined shape

Root hair cell

Absorbs water and minerals from the soil. Long hair like extensions to increase surface area

Xylem cell

Transports water from roots to leaves. Hollow tubes, thick walls, no end walls to allow water flow

Phleom cell

Transports food (glucose) around the plant.Long tubes with small holes to let food pass through.

Palisade cell

Absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis. packed with chloroplasts, tall and lightly packed

Cardiac (heart) cell

The muscle that makes up the hearts muscle, responsible for the transporting blood through the body

Fat cell

Stores energy for the body to use in the future

Surface skin cell

Forms a tight protective barrier that produces keratin so the skin strengthens

Intestinal lining

Plays a role in absorbing nutrients through water and liquids using microvilli
