Java Buzzwords
Key features of Java, including simplicity, object-orientation, and platform independence.
Platform Independent
Java code is compiled into bytecode, which can run on any OS with a JVM. This is known as 'Write Once, Run Anywhere'.
Object-Oriented
Java is centered around the concept of objects, which are instances of classes.
Exception Handling
A feature in Java that allows the graceful handling of errors during program execution.
Garbage Collection
An automatic memory management feature in Java that helps free memory by destroying objects that are no longer in use.
Identifiers
Names given to variables, methods, classes, etc., in Java for identification.
Keywords
Reserved words in Java that have special meanings and cannot be used as identifiers.
Literals
Constant values assigned to variables. Types include integral, floating-point, character, boolean, and string literals.
Overloading
A feature of Java in which two or more methods or constructors in the same class share the same name but differ in parameters.
Inheritance
A mechanism wherein one class acquires the properties of another class, enabling code reusability.
Interface
A reference type in Java that is a collection of abstract methods and constants, dictating what a class must implement.
Class
A blueprint for creating objects, encompassing data (state) and methods (behavior).
Array
A collection of elements of the same data type, accessible by an index.
Upcasting
Assigning a subclass object to a superclass reference variable.
Downcasting
Assigning a superclass reference variable to a subclass reference variable.
Final Variable
A variable declared with the final keyword, which cannot be modified once assigned.
Abstract Class
A class that cannot be instantiated and may contain abstract methods that are meant to be implemented in derived classes.
Method Overriding
A feature that allows a subclass to provide a specific implementation of a method declared in its superclass.
Command Line Arguments
Values passed to a Java program at runtime, received as string arrays in the main method.
String Class
A class in Java that defines a sequence of characters, and its object is immutable.
StringBuffer Class
A mutable sequence of characters, allowing modifications to strings after creation.
StringTokenizer Class
A utility class in Java that breaks a string into tokens based on specified delimiters.
Constructors
Special methods used to initialize objects when they are created; can be default, no-argument, or parameterized.
Encapsulation
The bundling of data (attributes) and methods that operate on the data into a single unit (class).
Polymorphism
The ability of Java to process objects differently based on their data type or class; includes compile-time and runtime polymorphism.
