(Increasing) Line Parent Function
The linear parent function given by y=x (or y=1x+0), with domain (−∞,∞) and range (−∞,∞).
Parabola Parent Function
The quadratic parent function given by y=x2, with vertex at (0,0), domain (−∞,∞), and range [0,∞).
Cubic Function Parent Function
The parent function given by y=x3, with domain (−∞,∞) and range (−∞,∞), passing through the origin (0,0).
Square Root Function Parent Function
The parent function given by y=x located in Quadrant 1, starting at (0,0), with domain [0,∞) and range [0,∞).
Hyperbola Parent Function
The parent rational function given by y=x1 whose graph does not touch the axes, featuring domain (−∞,0)∪(0,∞) and range (−∞,0)∪(0,∞).
Inverse-Square Function Parent Function
The parent function given by y=x21 whose graph does not touch the axes, with domain (−∞,0)∪(0,∞) and range (0,∞).
Unit Circle
The relation defined by x2+y2=1 with center (0,0) and radius r=1, possessing domain [−1,1] and range [−1,1]; it is not a function.
Semicircle (Centered at Origin)
The parent function given by y=r2−x2 (derived from x2+y2=r2), with domain [−r,r] and range [0,r].
Equation of Any Circle
The standard form equation given by (x−h)2+(y−k)2=r2, which yields x2+y2=1 when centered at (0,0) with radius r=1.
