Auscultation

Listening to heart sounds.

Mitral Valve

Also called the bicuspid valve.

Tricuspid Valve

Connects the right atrium and ventricle.

Systole

Means contraction.

Diastole

Means relaxation.

S1

The shutting of the atrioventricular valves (lub sound).

S2

The shutting of the semilunar valves (dub sound), including pulmonary and aortic valves.

Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty

Same as balloon angioplasty.

Heart Layers (Deep to Superficial)

Endocardium, myocardium, pericardium.

Epicardium

The outer layer of the heart.

Visceral Pericardium

The inner layer of the epicardium.

Parietal Pericardium

The outer layer of the epicardium.

Made up of the pulmonary and aortic valves.

Coronary Vessels

The heart receives its own blood supply from coronary veins and arteries.

Atrioventricular Valves

Include the tricuspid and mitral/bicuspid valves.
