measurement validity
the extent of correspondence between variations in the scores on the instrument and variation among respondents
measurement construct validity
concerned with the validity of the measure with respect to the theoretical construct of interest
face validity
based on informed impressions regarding the extent that a measure appears to capture a construct
content validity
The extent a measure adequately represents ( or samples) the complete range or breadth of a construct under consideration
criterion validity
the extend that a measure is related to, or explains, a target outcome or criterion, usually a behavior
concurrent validity
the extent that a measure is related to, or explains, a relevant criterion behavior, with both variables assessed at the same occasion
predictive validity
determining the extent that a measure is related to a relevant criterion behavior assessed on a subsequent occasion
convergent validation
assesses the extent that measures of theoretically related constructs are related empirically
known groups method
a measure designed to assess a proposed construct is given to different groups of people who are known to differ on an attribute that is related to the focus of the instrument
discriminant validity
the extent that measures of constructs that are theoretically unrelated are empirically unrelated
multitrait-multimethod matrix (MTMM)
multiple measures are used to assess the association of theoretically related, but different constructs, over and above the association that might come about simply from having shared the same method of measurement
