Brodmann Area 4
Location: Precentral gyrus (frontal lobe), anterior paracentral gyrus (medial). Function: Primary motor cortex; controls voluntary fine movements; major motor output to spinal cord/brainstem.
Brodmann Areas 3, 1, 2
Location: Postcentral gyrus (parietal lobe), posterior paracentral gyrus (medial). Function: Primary somatosensory cortex; processes touch, vibration, proprioception, pain, temperature.
Brodmann Area 6
Location: Anterior to primary motor cortex (frontal lobe). Function: Premotor and supplementary motor cortex; planning and sequencing movements.
Brodmann Area 8
Location: Anterior to premotor cortex (frontal lobe). Function: Frontal eye fields; voluntary eye movement control.
Brodmann Areas 9, 10, 11, 12
Location: Prefrontal cortex (frontal pole and surrounding frontal gyri). Function: Executive functions: judgment, decision-making, social behavior, planning.
Brodmann Areas 44, 45
Location: Inferior frontal gyrus (pars opercularis and pars triangularis). Function: Broca's area; motor speech production.
Brodmann Areas 5, 7
Location: Superior parietal lobule (posterior to primary somatosensory cortex). Function: Somatosensory association; integrates sensory input for movement and coordination.
Brodmann Area 40
Location: Supramarginal gyrus (inferior parietal lobule). Function: Spoken language comprehension support.
Brodmann Area 39
Location: Angular gyrus (inferior parietal lobule). Function: Written language comprehension; mathematical processing.
Brodmann Area 17
Location: Occipital pole along calcarine sulcus. Function: Primary visual cortex; initial visual processing.
Brodmann Areas 18, 19
Location: Surrounding area 17 (occipital lobe). Function: Visual association cortex; higher-order visual processing (motion, color, depth).
Brodmann Areas 41, 42
Location: Transverse temporal gyri (Heschl's gyri). Function: Primary auditory cortex; sound perception.
Brodmann Area 22
Location: Posterior superior temporal gyrus. Function: Wernicke's area; language comprehension.
Brodmann Areas 23, 24, 31
Location: Cingulate gyrus (medial surface). Function: Limbic functions; emotion, memory, behavior regulation.
