Lens through which the image is viewed

Diopter ring
A rotatable ring at the lack of the left ocular lens that brings the lens into focus with the right ocular lens

Head
The region that attaches the ocular tube to the mircoscope

Scanning objective
Objective lens with the least magnification (4x)
Low power objective
Objective lens with the magnification 10x
High power objective
Objective lens with the magnification (40x)
Oil immersion objective
Objective lens where you have to dip the tip in clear mineral oil to enhance resolution (highest magnification 100x)
Mechanical stage
Platform thats directly under the objective lenses, used to position a slide for viewing (side, forward, back)

Iris diaphragm
Controls the amount of light that passes through the condenser and reaches the slide on the microscope

Course focus adjustment
A small knob on either side of the arm or base that brings the image into focus by moving the stage up or down in large increments

Fine focus adjustment
A small knob that focuses by moving the stage up or down in small increments

Base
The horizontal support of the microscope

Illumination
An electric light source in the base that provides illumination for the compound lens system

Condenser
A lens that directs a narrow beam of concentrated light to the objective to enhance resolution

Arm
Vertical support member between the head and the base
Stage travel knobs
Moves the stage side, back, forward
