Frequency
Number of waves per second, measured in Hertz (Hz).
Hertz (Hz)
Unit of frequency, representing one wave per second.
Relationship between frequency and wavelength
High frequency correlates with short wavelength; low frequency correlates with tall wavelength.
High intensity sounds
Often described as having a high volume.
Pitch
The perceived highness or lowness of a sound, determined by its frequency.
Time period
The time for one complete wave to pass a point.
Calculated time period
Time period = 1 second divided by frequency.
Oscilloscope
A machine that displays the wave shape of an electrical signal.
Example of time period
If a wave has a frequency of 2Hz, the time period is 0.5 seconds.
High pitch
High frequency sound.
Low pitch
Low frequency sound.
