Eyeball
A highly specialized sense organ designed to transmit visual stimuli to the brain.
Optic Axis
The line joining the anterior and posterior poles of the eyeball.
Sclera
The tough, whitish outer coat of the eyeball.
Retina
A complex light-sensitive membrane at the back of the eyeball responsible for processing visual information.
Cornea
The transparent anterior part of the outer coat of the eyeball.
Equator of the Eyeball
The widest horizontal circle of the eyeball, perpendicular to the optic axis.
Choroid
The vascular coat of the eyeball lying between the sclera and the retina, rich in blood vessels.
Optic Nerve
The nerve that conveys information from the retina to the brain.
Ciliary Muscle
Smooth muscle that adjusts the shape of the lens for focusing.
Aqueous Humour
A watery fluid secreted by the ciliary body that circulates within the anterior chamber of the eyeball.
Fovea Centralis
The area of the retina responsible for sharp central vision.
Tapetum
An iridescent layer behind the retina that reflects light, enhancing vision in low light conditions.
Pupil
The opening in the center of the iris that regulates the amount of light entering the eye.
Accommodation
The process by which the eye changes optical power to maintain a clear image on the retina as the distance of an object varies.
Glaucoma
A condition characterized by increased intraocular pressure, which can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss.
