Scientific Method
A method of research in which a hypothesis is proposed and tested through experimentation.
Hypothesis
A testable and falsifiable explanation for a scientific observation or question.
Peer Review
The evaluation of scientific work by one or more experts in the same field to ensure the quality and validity of the research.
Experimental Group
The group in an experiment that receives the treatment or intervention being tested.
Control Group
The group in an experiment that does not receive the treatment and is used as a benchmark to measure the effects of the treatment.
Dependent Variable
The outcome or effect that is measured in an experiment; it is influenced by the independent variable.
Independent Variable
The variable that is deliberately changed or manipulated in an experiment to observe its effect on the dependent variable.
Statistical Significance
A measure of confidence that the results obtained are likely not due to chance.
Scientific Theory
A well-substantiated explanation of an aspect of the natural world that is based on a body of evidence and many tested hypotheses.
Epidemiology
The study of how diseases affect the health and illness of populations, and the patterns, causes, and effects of health conditions.
