Opposition, Ohms
Resistors are an ____ to current, and are measured in ___.
Set value, variable resistors, light sensitive, and surface mount resistors
There are 4 different types of resistors:

Draw the schematic symbols for fixed, potentiometer, and photocell resistors
Resistance.
More Ohms = ??
Black, brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, grey and white
What is the order of the color code from 0-9?
First digits.
What does the first 2 colors of a resistor represent?
Number of zeros.
What does the 3rd color of on a resistor represent?
Percentage. ( gold would be +-5%, silver+-10%, or could be no color so +-20% )
What does the last (there are 4 numbers on a resistor) color on a resistor represent?
Variable resistor; used to alter volume, brightness, etc. Ohm value is 0 ( Ex: 0-50k Ohms )
What is a potentiometer?
Also called photoresistors, can be used to change resistance based on light input
What is a photocell?
Light Emitting Diode.
What does LED stand for?
An LEDs wires are ____. (meaning??)
polarized - meaning they can only have electricity flow through in one direction ( greater the current = brighter the light )
Electrode which electricity enters ( positive ) ** except in an electrochemical cell
What is the anode of something, and what charge does it have?
Electrode which electricity flows out of (negative)
What is the cathode of something, and what charge does it have?
Small device that can be charged up with electrical energy, store it, and then release it.
What is a capacitor?
Farads (Symbol: F)
What are capacitors measured in?
Capacitance.
The ability to store electrons is called ____.
Electric, and ceramic.
There are 2 types of capacitors:
Timing, discharging, one direction.
Diodes are used for ___ (controls charging, and ___) and smoothing power supply. Device allows electrons to flow in ____. Has both an anode, and cathode.
Current flows through a coil, (electromagnet) and becomes magnetized and is either attracted to or repelled by the fixed magnet.
Explain the speaker for me.
Direction of where the sound moves.
Positive, and negative effects what of the speaker?
Used to amplify/generate signals.
What are transistors used for?
Emitter, base, and collector.
What are the 3 types of transistors?
PNP, and NPN.
“Bipolar transistors can come in either the __ or
__ type.”
Downwards.
At which direction does the arrow point on the schematic symbol of a NPN type of transistor?
Upwards.
At which direction does the arrow point on the schematic symbol of a PNP type of transistor?
Device that allows current to flow through only one way, and only after a momentary positive voltage that is applied to the gate.
What is an SCR?
Intergrated circuits (IR).
What is a different name for SCR?
Instead of using a numerical system that counts from 1, to 10, the binary code uses only 1’s, and 0’s.
What is binary?
Binary is achieved with inputs, and outputs of logic gates.
How is binary achieved?
1,5,3,8,4,7,6, and 2.
What is the order of a 555 timer? (counterclockwise)
To summarize; integrated circuits are devices with several components. (transistors, diodes, resistors, etc.…) all inside a small package.
What are integrated circuits; summarized?
