Vocabulary flashcards covering the definitions, characteristics, rules of operations, and number line representations of integers.
Integers
Whole numbers that can be positive or negative (as well as zero) without any decimal or fractional parts.
Positive Integers
Whole numbers greater than zero, such as 1, 5, and 12.
Negative Integers
Whole numbers less than zero, representing opposites or deficits (such as −1, −5, and −12).
Zero
A neutral integer that separates positive and negative numbers on a number line.
Addition Rule for Integers
If integers have the same sign, you add them; if they have different signs, you subtract them.
KFC
A strategy used for integer subtraction where K stands for Keep, F stands for Flip, and C stands for Change.
Opposite Integers
Integers that have the same number value but different signs (+/−), such as +4 and −4.
Number Line Representation of Positive Integers
Integers situated to the right side of zero (0).
Number Line Representation of Negative Integers
Integers situated to the left side of zero (0).
