what determines the state/phase of a substance
temperature and pressure
for volume, pressure, temperature and density, which relationships are proportional?
volume and temp, pressure and temp, density and pressure
for volume, pressure, temperature and density, which relationships are inversely proportional?
volume and pressure, density and temperature, density and volume
what are the assumptions of kinetic molecular theory
gases consist of large numbers of molecules that are in constant random motion, gases are mostly empty space(the combined volume of all the molecules is negligible to the total volume, gas molecules don’t stick to each other when they collide, attractive & repulsive forces between molecules are negligible, collisions between molecules are elastic, gas pressure is caused by collisions of molecules within the walls of the container, the avg kinetic energy of the molecules is proportional to the temperature, at any given temp the molecules of all gases have the same kinetic energy
ideal gas
a hypothetical gas that perfectly fits all the assumptions of the kinetic molecular theory
when do real gases behave like ideal gases
at room temp & pressure
diffusion
a process where molecules spread out spontaneously and mix with other substances because of random motion
