Laboratory equipment
The various tools and equipment used by scientists working in a laboratory to perform experiments or to take measurements and gather data.
Graduated Cylinder
A piece of laboratory equipment used to measure the volume of liquids.
Beaker
A container used when measuring the approximate volume of liquids.
Florence Flask
A graduated flask used in volumetric analysis.
Erlenmeyer Flask
A flask suitable for heating liquids, for example with a Bunsen burner.
Test Tube
Glassware widely used by chemists to hold, mix, or heat small quantities of solid or liquid chemicals, especially for qualitative experiments and assays.
Funnel
A tool used in filtration and in transferring liquid.
Watch Glass
Used as a container when observing the reaction of a substance when exposed to air, for holding small samples, or for covering beakers or evaporating dishes.
Stirring Rod
A tool used in mixing solutions and directing the flow of liquids.
Glass Tube
Used in glass connections, preparation of medicine droppers, glass jets, etc.
Medicine Dropper
A tool used to transfer and measure small amounts of liquid.
Evaporating Dish
A container used for evaporation.
Pipets
Tools used to dispense small quantities of liquids.
Volumetric Flasks
Flasks used to measure precise volumes of liquid or to make precise dilutions.
Mortar and Pestle
Tools used for grinding solids.
Crucible and Cover
A container used for high-temperature heating.
Spot Plate
A container used for observing small amounts of solids.
Thermometer
An instrument used in determining the temperature of a substance.
Iron Stand
A metal support used to hold an iron ring, utility clamp, etc.
Iron Ring
A metal ring used as a support to the wire gauze.
Iron Clamp
A clamp used to hold apparatus in a set-up.
Wire Gauze
A sheet placed over the iron ring to prevent direct heating.
Tripod
A three-legged metal piece used as a stand during heating.
Bunsen Burner / Alcohol Lamp
Equipment used as sources of heat.
Test Tube Rack
A rack used as a stand for test tubes.
Rubber Stopper
A cover for test tubes and flasks, also used in glass connections.
Clay Triangle
A triangular framework that holds a crucible and cover during the heating process.
Test Tube Holder
A tool used to hold the test tube during the heating process.
Crucible Tongs
Tongs used to hold hot objects, especially a crucible and cover.
Wash bottles
Bottles used for dispensing small quantities of distilled water.
Hot Plates
Equipment that can be used as sources of heat when an open flame is not desirable.
Microscope
An optical instrument that uses a lens or a combination of lenses to produce magnified images of small objects, especially of objects too small to be seen by the unaided eye.
Balances
Instruments used to determine the mass of a reagent or object.
