Subjunctive Mood
Expresses events that a speaker hopes for, desires, doubts, or feels strongly about, but may not necessarily be true.
Indicative Mood
Used to ask questions and report events that the speaker perceives as real and certain.
Present Subjunctive Endings for -ar verbs
-e, -es, -e, -emos, -éis, -en.
Present Subjunctive Endings for -er and -ir verbs
-a, -as, -a, -amos, -áis, -an.
Impersonal Expressions
Expressions like 'es posible que', 'es importante que' that require the subjunctive when they convey doubt or emotion.
Definite Antecedent
Refers to a known person or thing, requiring the indicative in adjective clauses.
Indefinite Antecedent
Refers to an unknown person or thing, requiring the subjunctive in adjective clauses.
Nonexistent Antecedent
Refers to someone or something believed not to exist, requiring the subjunctive in adjective clauses.
Example of Subjunctive after Impersonal Expression
'Es bueno que estudies para el examen.' (It's good that you study for the exam.)
Spell Change Verbs
Verbs that have a spelling change in the 'yo' form that maintain the change in all forms in the subjunctive.
