Cooling Tower
A system used to dissipate heat from water-cooled refrigeration, air-conditioning, and industrial processes.
Mechanical-Draft Tower
A type of cooling tower that uses fans to circulate air through the system.
Natural Draft Tower
A type of cooling tower that relies on natural air currents for air circulation.
Wet-Bulb Temperature
The lowest temperature that can be achieved by evaporative cooling, corresponding to the moisture content in the air.
Heat of Vaporization
The amount of heat required to convert a unit mass of water from liquid to vapor at constant temperature and pressure.
Approach of Cooling Tower
The difference between the leaving water temperature and the entering air wet-bulb temperature.
Heat Load
The amount of heat energy that must be removed by the cooling tower to maintain a desired temperature.
Cooling Tower Ratings
Measured in tons, indicating the capacity of the tower to remove heat, typically correlating to the capacity of the condenser.
Airflow Velocity
The speed at which air moves through the cooling tower, affecting its efficiency.
C to D (Temperature Relationship)
The rise in wet-bulb temperature of air as it passes through the counter flow cooling tower.
