What is the test for reducing sugars?
1) add benedicts reagent
2) heat
3) a positive test observation = blue ,g,y to brick red
( the more red, the higher conc of reducing sugar)
Test for non reducing sugar
Following a negative benedicts test, where reagent remains blue
1)add acid + boil = acid hydrolysis
2) cool the solution
3) add alkaline to neutralise solution
4) add benedicts reagent
6) heat
7) positive test = blue to brick red
( the more red, the higher conc of reducing sugar)
What is the result for testing reducing and non reducing sugars?
