T Cells (also where do they mature)
Manage immune responses and directly attack or destroy infected cells. Mature in the thymus.
B cells (also where do they mature)
Participate in immune defense by differentiating into plasma cells, which secrete antibodies. Mature in red bone marrow.
Macrophages
Perform phagocytosis: engulf and digest pathogens, foreign substances, and cellular debris. They can also help activate T cells.
Dendritic Cells
Capture antigens and carry or present them to lymphocytes in lymph nodes, helping initiate an immune response.
Reticular cells and reticular fibers
Reticular cells produce the fibers that form a supportive scaffold, or stroma, for immune cells.
