Hinge Joint
Allows for bending and straightening motions along a single axis; ex. elbow joint

Pivot Joint
Joint in which a bone rotates on a single axis within a ring; ex. axis and atlas

Saddle Joint
both articulating surfaces of the bones have a saddle shape, and the two bones lock together like a rider in a saddle; movement along two axis; ex. trapezium and 1st metacarpal

Plane Joint
articulating surfaces of bone are flat and approximately the same size, allowing them to slide against each other and offers limited, but multiple movements, sometimes including rotation; ex. between tarsal bones.

Condyloid Joint
The shallow depression at the end of one bone that articulates with a rounded structure from an adjacent bone; two planes of bone; ex. distal metacarpals ends and proximal phalange ends

Ball and socket joint
the rounded head of one bone fits into the concave articulation of the adjacent bone; multiaxial movement; provides the greatest range of motion of all joints; ex. hip joint
