HUMERUS

Medial Epicondyle of Humerus
Projects medially from the Trochlea.
Larger than the Lateral Epicondyle.
Gives attachment to Pronator Teres and the common tendon to the Flexor Muscles of the forearm.

Lateral Epicondyle of Humerus
Projects laterally from the Capitulum.
Provides origin of the Supinator and the Extensor muscles of the forearm.

Medial Condyle of Humerus

Lateral Condyle Humerus

Olecranon Fossa of Humerus
Houses the Olecranon of the Ulna in full extension of the forearm.

ULNA

Olecranon of Ulna
Curved projection on the dorsum of the elbow.
Gives attachment to Triceps Tendon.

Head (distal) of Ulna
Articulates with the radius at the distal radioulnar joint.
Contains Styloid Process.

Styloid Process of Ulna
Articulates with carpal bones

Ulnar Tuberosity

RADIUS
Thumb side

Head (proximal) of Radius
Articulates with the capitulum of the humerus and the radial notch of the Ulna.
Wheel-and cup- shaped with a thin neck.

Radial Tuberosity of Radius
An oval prominence just distal to the neck.
Biceps brachii tendon attaches here.

Styloid Process of Radius
At distal end, about 1 cm distal to the ulnar styloid process.
Provides attachment to the Brachilradialis muscle.

Annular Ligament of Radius
Holds the head of the radius in place and attaches the radius to the ulna to allow for pronation and supination.

CARPAL BONES
8

How many carpel bones are there? How many rows?
2 rows with 4 each.
Proximal Row from Radial-Ulnar (wrist side)
Scaphoid, Lunate, Triquetrum, Pisiform
-Proximal row is curved, which allows Abduction and Adduction.
Distal Row from Radial-Ulnar (finger side)
Trapezium, Trapezoid, Capitate, Hamate
-Distal row allows articulation with proximal carpals and metacarpals.

T= Trapezoid
C= Capitate
H= Hamate
Scaphoid
Largest bone in proximal row and the most commonly fractured carpal bone.
Boat Shaped.

Lunate
wrist side-
Also most mobile on palpation.
Moon Shaped

Triquetrum

Pisiform
Has Flexor Carpi Ulnaris inserting on it.

Trapezium
Makes a Saddle joint with metacarpal of thumb.

Trapezoid
index finger

Capitate
Largest Carpal Bone.
"Captain" (middle finger)

Hamate

METACARPALS
5 each hand

PHALANGES
14 each hand

Phalanges
The miniature long bones that have bases, heads, and shafts.
There are 3 on each finger and 2 on the thumb.
Deeper muscles move the _____?
Fingers
More superficial muscles move the ______?
Wrist
scaphoid

distal phalanges

sesamoid bone

proximal phalanges

metacarpal bones
