  1. Non-rational appetitive soul: Directed by physical need or desire

  2. Rational appetitive soul: Level of self-reflection. It involves physical appetites but is also rational because it is thinking and reflecting on the appetites and making wise choices

  3. Rational Soul: The development and fulfillment of the rational soul is another kind of excellence/virtue: intellectual excellence. The aim overall is to attain wisdom.
