Catabolic reaction
A type of chemical reaction where bonds are broken and stored energy is released for the cell to use.
Potential energy
The energy stored in chemical bonds that is released when the cell breaks those bonds to perform work.
ATP breakdown
A catabolic reaction in which ATP is broken into ADP and PARP, releasing energy stored in its bonds.
Muscle cell contraction
A cellular process that requires two ATPs and utilizes the energy released from breaking ATP bonds to shrink.
