Comet
An icy space rock with a distinctive tail which is caused by the sun evaporating the ice. Because they are far beyond Earth’s atmosphere, they seem completely still when spotted in the night sky.
Asteroid
Space rock floating around that never became part of a planet.
Meteor
A space rock that has entered our atmosphere. Pulled in by gravity. We can see it burning because of friction with the atmosphere. We call them shooting stars.
Supernova
The death of a large star. The core becomes unstable and it explodes (because it starts fusing the element IRON)
Black Hole
This is the death of a LARGE star. Comes after the supernova. Super strong gravity, even light can’t escape it! These hold galaxies together.
Jovian planets
Large planets made of glasses, no solid surface, rock and ice core, many moons, further from sun, colder, large atmospheres, large amounts of gravity.
Terrestrial Planet
Small, rocky, close to the sun, small atmospheres, few moons, small amount of gravity.
Galaxy
A collection of stars, gasses, dust, and planets… all held together by a black hole in the center!
Star(main sequence)
A ball of “burning” Hydrogen, Hydrogen fusing to make Helium, this gives off energy and makes a star shine.
