Culture

Cultural Self Awareness
To be culturally competent, the Radiologic Technologists must have greater awareness of their own cultural beliefs, thoughts, feelings and have greater responsiveness to the cultural beliefs of patient.
Stereotype
Can be a natural way of dealing with the unknown. an end point in which we have developed conventional, formulaic and oversimplified conceptions and opinions. We don’t take the time to see if that patient fits in that category. Can sometimes lead to disastrous results for the patient
Generalization
A beginning point in which we recognize a cultural pattern and then see if that patient fits the pattern
Linguistic Competency
Radiographers are governed by professional codes and standards that preclude discriminatory practices and provide for delivery of high quality patient care with disregard for cultural differences.
Cultural Humility
An approach that was developed as a lifelong process of self reflection and self critique due to the limitations of cultural competency.
