Vocabulary practice flashcards covering parallel lines, skew lines, transversals, angle relationships, coordinate slopes, and lesson-specific activities from geometry class.
Transversal
A line that intersects two or more lines at different points in a plane.
Alternate Interior Angles
Nonadjacent interior angles that lie on opposite sides of a transversal between two lines.
Alternate Exterior Angles
Nonadjacent exterior angles that lie on opposite sides of a transversal outside two lines.
Consecutive Interior Angles
Angles that lie between two lines on the same side of a transversal; when the lines are parallel, these angles are supplementary.
Same Side Interior Angles
Another geometric name for consecutive interior angles located inside the intersected lines on the identical side of the transversal.
Corresponding Angles
Angles that occupy the same relative position at each intersection where a transversal cuts two lines; they are congruent when the lines are parallel.
Vertical Angles
Opposite, congruent angles formed by the intersection of two straight lines.
Supplementary Angles
Two angles whose degree measures have a sum equal to 180∘.
Parallel Lines
Coplanar lines that do not intersect and have identical slopes.
Perpendicular Lines
Lines that intersect to form right angles (90∘), having slopes that are opposite reciprocals whose product equals −1.
Skew Lines
Lines that do not intersect and do not lie in the same plane.
Collinear Points
Points that lie along the same straight line.
Slope
The measure of the steepness of a line defined as the ratio of vertical change to horizontal change between points, given by the formula m=x2−x1y2−y1.
Parallel City
A mapping project in which students map eight street corners formed by two parallel roads cut by a transversal to model angle-pair relationships.
"Little Ricky Learns to Play the Drums"
The Season #6 episode of I Love Lucy (first aired: 10/8/56) used as the thematic source for parallel lines and transversal geometry problems.
