Cell theory
The scientific explanation describing cells as the basic unit of life.
Prokaryotic
A cell that lacks a nucleus.
Eukaryotic
A cell that contains a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.
Organelle
A structure within a cell that performs a specific job.
Homeostasis
The process of maintaining stable internal conditions.
Selectively Premeable
A membrane that allows some materials to pass while blocking others.
Diffusion
The movement of particles from high concentration to low concentration.
Osmosis
The movement of water across a membrane.
Active transport
Movement of materials that requires energy.
Equilibrium.
A state where molecules continue moving but are evenly distributed.
Nucleus
Main function and organelle
Main function: controls cell activity and contains DNA
Organelle: Vacoule - stores water nutrients and waste
Ribosome
Main function: Makes proteins
Organelle: Golgi Apparatus - packages and distributes proteins and other materials.
Mitochondria
Main function: produces energy for the cell
Organelle: Endoplasmic Reticulum - makes and transports lipids and proteins.
Cell membrane
Main function: Controls what exits and leaves the cell.
Organelle: Lysosome - breaks down waste and old down materials.
REMEMBER
Only diffusion, facilitated diffusion, and osmosis are passive. Everything else is active. ACE THE TEST HANNAH.
